01 January 2008: Three time Super Bowl MVP Joe Montana presents Matt Barkley (5) of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California was the first recipient of the Joe Montana Quarterback of the Year Award during the Outback Bowl game between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Tennessee Volunteers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The DeBartolo Sports University and Joe Montana selected Barkley as the nation's best high school quarterback. Barkley threw for 4,576 and 35 touchdowns in 11 games for Mater Dei High School.
