21 October 2005: Don Schumacher was the winning team owner of the NHRA Powerade Series Top Fuel and Funny Car professional point races in 2005. Don Schumacher Racing now has ten professional NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series teams including the US Army Top Fuel dragster driven by Tony Schumacher and the Mopar/Oakley Dodge Funny Car piloted by Gary Scelzi. Tony Schumacher earned his second straight and third overall NHRA POWERade Series Top Fuel world championship with nine victories. Schumacher set single-season NHRA Top Fuel records for consecutive victories with five, consecutive final rounds with seven, Number One qualifiers with 11, consecutive round-wins of 20, and overall margin of victory with 415 points. Gary Scelzi clinched his first Funny Car championship to go with his three Top Fuel titles and became only the second driver to have won in both nitro classes.
