10 December 2005: Richie Williams (7) QB for the Appalachian State University Mountaineers was sidelined by an ankle injury in the first quarter of the NCAA Division I-AA semi-final championship game against the Furman Paladins. Despite the injured ankle, the Walter Payton Award finalist and holder of almost every QB record for the Mountaineers made a special walk following the game as he crossed the stage to receive his bachelor's degree in graphic arts and imaging technology at ASU's winter commencement. App State went on to win by a final score of 29-23 at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, North Carolina.
