18 May 2007: Six-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps swims in the warmup pool before competing in a preliminary heat of the 100 meter backstroke event on the second day of the Erik Namesnik Memorial Grand Prix in Ann Arbor, Mich. The event, which runs through Sunday, has a morning finals format to help prepare swimmers for the Beijing Olympics. Finals at the 2008 Games were moved to the morning because NBC wants to broadcast gold-medal races live in U.S. prime time.
