08 February 2012: 2012 PORSCHE CAYMAN: To many purists and students of the Porsche sports car, the Cayman is clearly the modern descendants of the legendary Porsche 904 and 550 Coupe racing cars. For 2012, the solid-roofed two-seat, mid-engine Cayman is available in four trim levels, each powered by six-cylinder boxer engines. The standard Cayman features a 265 horsepower 2.9-liter, Cayman S provides 320hp from its 3.4L block, while the Cayman S Black Edition and the new Cayman R lightweight roadster are equipped with 330hp versions of the 3.4L. Customers have a choice of six-speed manual gearbox or seven-speed automatic transmission. Other news for the 2012 model year includes Ipanema Blue metallic and Peridot metallic paint colors available and a new SportDesign steering wheel. The Cayman S races from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds on its way to a top test-track speed of 172 mph.
