Approximately 1700 amatuers are poise for the 7:00 AM start of the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, October 15, 2005. The Pro athletes have already begun their race. Participants in the 27-year-old endurance race must complete three segments which are a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run.
