11 February 2009: 2009 HONDA FIT: Dimensionally compact on the outside, Honda's second generation Fit provides surprisingly large 5-passenger seating and 14.2 cubic feet cargo space. The '09 Fit has a 2-inch increase in the wheelbase, and is 2.2-inches longer than its predecessor. Power is supplied by a new 1.5-liter VTEC 4-cylinder engine connected to either a 5-speed manual or an available 5-speed automatic gearbox, with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters on the Fit Sport. The suspension setup is a combination of front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam with a trailing arm. Standard on the Fit Sport are plus-size alloy wheels; a 200-Watt, six-speaker audio system; wheel-mounted paddle shifters (when equipped with the available automatic transmission) and a full body aero kit complete with a rear roofline spoiler.
