11 February 2009: 2009 MINI CONVERTIBLE: Fun in the sun is at the heart of the '09 MINI Convertible, which includes a fully automatic top with standard heated glass rear window. The innovative ragtop features an integrated power sliding sunroof feature, which allows for open-air motoring and can be opened or closed while traveling at speeds up to 20 mph. From completely closed to fully open, the convertible top operation takes only 15 seconds. When down, much of the folded roof recesses below the rear deck, resulting in a very clean look and eliminating the need for a tonneau cover. Body stiffness has been improved over the former model, with a reduction in vehicle weight by 22 lb. A chain-driven, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, with 118 horsepower, is mounted transversely for more cabin space. Mated to the engine is either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
