11 February 2009: 2009 MERCEDES-BENZ SLK-CLASS: Celebrating its 11th year on the market, the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class does its best to bring an affordable sports car under the three-pointed star. Featuring a retractable hardtop, there are three SLK versions: SLK300, SLK350 and high performance SLK55 AMG. New for '09, the SLK 300 replaces the SLK 280 gets revised output rpms, slightly lower, though the 228 h.p. of the 3.0-liter V-6 remain the same. A minor facelift alters front and rear fascias and side mirrors. A new steering wheel connects to new variable rate steering system. SLK 350 means a 3.5 liter V-6 rated at 300 h.p., but loses its manual gearbox, setting for the seven speed automatic. Playing by a different set of rules is the SLK55 AMG, which calls on the AMG hand built 5.4-liter V-8 rated at 355 h.p. and only comes attached to the automatic.
